Shea butter
Behind every jar of shea butter is a cooperative, a craft and knowledge passed down through generations. Here we show how shea butter is made, from shea nut to finished product.

Harvesting and sorting
The shea nuts are gathered from the ground. They are sorted, boiled and dried in the sun before being ground.

Grinding into a paste
The ground nuts are mixed with water into a thick, brown paste. It is whisked by hand for several hours to release the oil.

Boiling and separation
The paste is heated and the oil rises to the surface. The mixture is boiled until the oil separates completely from the brown paste.

Resting and setting
The oil is strained, boiled again and then left to rest until it thickens. As it sets, the shea butter takes on its compact, beige-yellow form.
The result is a natural shea butter that is soft, nourishing and valued for both skin and hair
Black Soap
Black soap, or black soap, is made by hand in Ghana using natural raw materials and craftsmanship built over time. Here we show how it is made, step by step.

Roasting into ash
Plantain peels, palm leaves and cocoa beans are roasted in an oven and form ash. This ash gives the soap its cleansing and exfoliating power.

Filtering and boiling
The ash is filtered with water and boiled. It becomes a thicker mixture that the women monitor closely throughout the process.

Adding the oils
When the mixture starts to become firm, the oils are added, such as coconut oil and unrefined shea butter.

Stirring and resting
The mixture is stirred for a long time before the soap is left to rest and set. It is then ready to use.
The result is a natural soap that cleanses and moisturises, with clear craftsmanship behind every piece.

Collecting beneath the argan trees
The argan fruits that have fallen from the trees are gathered. They are dried in the sun and opened to reach the nutrient-rich kernels inside.

Cracking by hand
The kernels are cracked by hand using two stones. It takes both precision and sensitivity to keep the kernel intact.

Hand pressing
Once the kernels have been removed, they are gently pressed to extract the oil. This method helps preserve the oil’s natural properties.

A tradition passed down
The method has been used for generations and is an important part of the tradition surrounding argan oil.
The result is a pure, cold-pressed argan oil with a rich history and many uses in skincare.
